Breast Cancer Awareness @FMTC, Kollam

BREAST CANCER AWARENESS CLASS

Breast Cancer Awareness aims to educate people about breast cancer, its early signs, risk factors, and the importance of early detection. Breast cancer occurs when abnormal cells grow uncontrollably in breast tissue and can affect both women and men, though it is more common in women. Common warning signs include lumps in the breast, changes in breast shape or size, nipple discharge, and skin changes.

Awareness programmes emphasize the importance of self-breast examination, clinical check-ups, and screening methods like mammography, which help detect cancer at an early stage when treatment is most effective. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, regular physical activity, and avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol can reduce the risk.

Breast Cancer Awareness also helps remove fear and stigma, encouraging people to seek timely medical help. Early detection saves lives, and spreading awareness plays a crucial role in prevention and successful treatment.

Breast cancer awareness also focuses on educating people about risk factors such as family history, increasing age, hormonal imbalance, obesity, lack of physical activity, and late detection. Many cases can be managed successfully if identified early, highlighting the importance of regular screening and awareness of one’s own body.

Awareness campaigns encourage women to perform monthly self-breast examinations and to consult healthcare professionals if any unusual changes are noticed. They also stress the role of regular medical screenings, especially for women above 40 years of age. Emotional support and counselling are equally important aspects of breast cancer awareness, helping patients and families cope with diagnosis and treatment.

By promoting correct information and early medical care, breast cancer awareness programmes aim to reduce mortality, improve quality of life, and empower individuals to take responsibility for their health.
